Client
Barratt Homes
Location
Hanham Hall –
Zero Carbon Challenge, Bristol, UK
Description
Hanham Hall is
set to be the first large scale zero carbon
eco-village in the UK. It consists of 188
dwellings with a mix of tenure and size
ranging from one to four beds.
Objective
Conduct a Code
for Sustainable Homes Assessment and obtain
a "Level 6"—Zero Carbon—sustainability
rating.
Brief
EcoConsulting
was appointed to work in conjunction with
HTA, Arup, and Barratt Homes in delivering a
Code Level 6. Solutions have to be
practical, cost-effective, and
carbon-neutral.
We are advising the design team and client
on general sustainability strategies and
detailed considerations all of which are
crucial on a development where over 90% of
the available Code credits need to be
obtained.
The development will feature a biomass CHP
to meet 100% of the heating, hot water, and
electrical loads of the dwellings. Very low
mains water consumption will be ensured
through low flow sanitary fittings and
rainwater collection—which will also be used
to irrigate the planting.
